New Jersey Craft Beer Bus Tour

Attention Tri-State area residents! Do you want to visit Kane and Carton breweries, two of New Jersey's newest and most hyped breweries? How about a special private tour of Kane Brewing Company by Michael Kane himself? I helped plan this bus trip that will be happening on Sunday July 15th. If you're interested, buy your tickets before Saturday or it'll be too late! Here's the info:

Monmouth County Bus Tour SUNDAY, JULY 15 We will be opening ticket sales for 30 seats on a first come, first serve basis. Tickets are $75 dollars and NJCB members will receive a 10% discount.  Ticket sales close on June 30 at 11:59PM. Please vist the NJCB Store for Tickets Price includes round-trip transportation from Newark Penn or Metro Park to 2 Breweries and 3 bars/restaurants. Also included will be 2 beers and  some food* Target times: 9:00am - Pickup at Newark Penn Station 9:40am - Pickup at Metro Park  10:45am - Kane Brewery (private) Tour and Samples 12:15pm - Brickwall Tavern 1 beer 2:00pm - Carton Brewery Tour and Samples 3:30pm - Twin Light Taphouse 1 beer and shared food trays 5:45pm - Maloney's Pub & Grill 7:15pm - Metro Park drop-off 8:00pm - Newark Penn Station drop-off Lastly, Edison Ale House is offering a complimentary beer to anyone on the tour after the final drop-off at Newark Penn Station. Just show your NJCB wristband for your beer. *Everyone will have the opportunity and is encouraged to buy growlers and swag from the breweries. Please remember that the breweries are making room for us and only benefit if you purchase beer or merchandise.  Any extra beers at the bars will be on a pay as you go basis.   Please bring cash as it will be easier to get the orders processed with the large group. Maloney's is giving all on tour a discount on beers. You will be able to order food at any of the bar/restaurants, but we encourage everyone to pack some food as a full meal will not be provided and time constraints may not allow for 30 people to order their own food at the restaurants.  We will also be bringing some beer on the bus for passengers.  Bottle shares are also encouraged! We also welcome any members that can not make the full trip to join us at any of the our stops.  It will be pay as you go. Nothing will be included. Again, tickets on sale at the NJCB Store. IMPORTANT INFO Please be sure to be at pickup locations 15 minutes prior to scheduled pickup time. Don't get left at the bus stop!  NJCB Members, please use the code provided to your in your email on our order page.  Be sure to alert us in the comments section of the order where you will be boarding the bus. NJCB also asks that if you require driving after the final drop-offs to please have a Designated Driver. NJCB is not responsible after you have been dropped off to Newark Penn Station or Metro Park. Texas Arizona in Hoboken, New Jersey

I had my craft beer awakening in 2006, smack dab in the middle of a 2-year stint of living in Hoboken. While it can get a bit rowdy on weekend nights, Hoboken is still a great town. But when I was there, save for a store or 2 and basically only 1 bar, craft beer was almost nowhere to be seen. Thankfully, that is no longer the case.



If you take the Path train to get to Hoboken, Texas Arizona is literally the first thing you see when you get there. Located directly opposite of the Path train entrance, Texas Arizona was a bar I frequented once or twice, mostly unimpressed with the varieties of fizzy yellow beer they stocked. Today the spot is a beacon for craft beer fans with a whole slew of great suds to enjoy.

TXAZ has also had a few great events as well, including a Dogfish Head Night this past week and a highly successful New Jersey Brewer's Appreciation Night  including draught pours from NJ Beer Co., Flying Fish, Ramstein, Cricket Hill, Kane and Carton.

On top of all of that, they are a part of the New Jersey Craft Beer Membership Club where if you're a member you can save 10% on your entire bill. Full disclosure: I help out the NJCB team as a Regional Rep, but believe me that both Texas Arizona and the New Jersey Craft Beer Membership are well worth checking out.

Dogfish Head Night at Barcade Jersey City

This past Thursday night, the Jersey City incarnation of Barcade hosted Dogfish Head Night with craft beer rockstar Sam Calagione in attendance. As you can imagine, this event was packed to the gills with beer aficionados of all varieties hoping to be able to share a toast with the man behind the fish.



Barcade brought out some fine Dogfish beers from their stash for this event including 2009 Fort, 2009 Burton Baton and 2009 Theobroma. Not to mention the always crowd-pleasing 120 Minute IPA and the brand-new limited offering Noble Rot, a near fifty-fifty mix of beer & wine and my favorite of the night. Unfortunately for some who came later in the night, kegs were kicking as early as 7:30pm including the Noble Rot and 120. People drink good beer quickly? Shocker.

Sam made a brief but impassioned speech about raising our glasses to all of the craft brewers out there that have made nights like that possible. He's really quite the wordsmith and you can see why he's attained the rock star status that he has. Plus, the beers are pretty fine.

Lost Abbey in New Jersey

Today we've got Lost Abbey bottles featured on the site, submitted by Jonathan Miller to celebrate their recent move into New Jersey. Jon took this photo at Canal’s Discount Liquor Mart in Berlin, NJ which is now carrying both Lost Abbey and Port beers, much like many other great beer stores across the state.

Surly Wet

Today's photo was submitted by Heather aka @hopheadheath and features the wonderful and rare (if you're not from around Minnesota) beer Surly Wet. This beer is brewed with 4800 lbs. of hops picked fresh in Washington and used 3 days later in MN. As you can tell, Heather was clever in her use of backdrop for this beer. You gotta love fresh hop beers.
